USACE Army Corps of Engineers Permits — Long Island, NY
Federal authorization from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is required for many marine projects involving navigable waters, dredging, and significant in-water structures. Sea Tech manages the full USACE coordination process.
When USACE Authorization Is Required
The Army Corps of Engineers regulates work in navigable waters of the United States under Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, and in wetlands and waters under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act. Common triggers include:
- Dredging in navigable waters or connected wetlands
- Large marine structures (piers, bulkheads, breakwaters)
- Discharge of dredged or fill material into waters of the U.S.
- Projects near federally designated navigable channels
- Commercial marina construction or expansion
- Projects with potential impacts to federal navigation interests
Nationwide vs. Individual Permits
Many smaller projects qualify for a Nationwide Permit (NWP)—a streamlined USACE authorization for common, low-impact work. Larger or more complex projects may require an Individual Permit, which involves a more extensive public notice and review process.
Sea Tech evaluates which permit pathway applies, prepares the appropriate submittal, and coordinates with the Army Corps New York District throughout the review.
USACE + NYSDEC Coordination
Federal and state permits often run simultaneously. Sea Tech manages both tracks concurrently to keep overall project timelines as short as possible.
